A 17-year-old lifeguard from Australia was on her first rescue mission as a lifeguard when she saved a kangaroo that had jumped into rough surf (at New South Wales). Lillian Bee Young had just begun her new job on the afternoon of New Year’s Eve when a kangaroo jumped into rough waters. She quickly grabbed her rescue board and swam out to rescue the kangaroo, which was able to keep its head above water but was struggling to get back to shore.
