How a cat named Carla saved him when he was at the lowest part of his life

Writer Tom Nichols in the current issue of The Atlantic shares a very personal and emotional attachment he had to one special cat--saying he wasn't exactly a cat fan, but at the lowest point in his life about fifteen years ago, he saw this cat in the window of a vet's office every day on his way to work, and something made him think maybe I should offer her a home. He rejected the idea saying he can't even take care of himself, never mind a cat. But then something happened....
