Dogs at the PAWS Shelter in Anderson County were more than eager to take part in the Thanksgiving festivities.
Videos posted by the no-kill animal shelter on Wednesday, Nov. 27 shows their adorable adoptable dogs gobbling up plates of colorful Thanksgiving meals. Some of the dogs couldn’t contain their excitement when dinner was served.
"We just couldn’t bear the thought of our furry friends missing out on the Thanksgiving fun, so we cooked up a special canine feast, complete with chicken and rice, green beans, sweet potatoes, apple slices, and pumpkin puree," the shelter posted on social media. “Our dogs? Totally and utterly spoiled rotten!” Thanksgiving may be over, but leftovers are sure to last for days. Here are the foods that PAWS says are safe to feed dogs, and which ones to avoid:

- Carrots
- Cranberries
- Sweet potatoes
- Plain potatoes
- Pumpkin (plain, cooked or canned)
- Turkey meat
- Apple slices
- Plain butternut squash
Not safe
- Alcohol
- Buttered vegetables
- Grapes or raisins
- Gravy
- Mashed potatoes
- Nuts
- Onions
- Chives
- Garlic
- Stuffing
- Turkey bones or skin
The Anderson County PAWS Shelter is also taking part in an “empty the shelters” event this month.
From Dec. 1-17, adoption fees at the South Carolina shelter will covered by the Bissell Pet Foundation. Anyone looking to adopt a pet can take home a “spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped pet who is ready to be loved for $50 or less,” the foundation said.
Hundreds of shelters across 45 states will reportedly participate in the event next month. Enjoy the videos!
