Ed Lighthall has been reunited with his poodle mix Pete, who disappeared from his Chicago backyard 10 years ago. The dog was found running loose in Hammond, Indiana, about 20 miles away, wearing a collar and tags when animal control rescued him. Laney Bunner from Hammond Animal Control contacted 24/7 Pet Watch, the microchip company, which led her to Lighthall. “He was ecstatic because his dog had been missing for 10 years,” Bunner said, calling it “the longest I have ever heard of.” Pete’s most recent owner no longer wanted him. “I would tell people how much I missed him and how much it would mean if he ever came back,” Lighthall told NBC Chicago. “It is like we picked up where we left off. I’m happy. He is happy.”
