10-Year-Old Girl Saves Young Brother From Choking

A 10-year-old girl from Texas is being hailed as a hero for saving her seven-year-old brother after he started choking on a piece of candy while attempting the viral “Warhead Challenge.” Leah James and her little brother, Logan, were filming the challenge while jumping on a trampoline when Logan suddenly started struggling to breathe. Leah first patted his back, then performed the Heimlich maneuver, dislodging the candy and helping him to breathe again.

The dramatic rescue was captured on video and later shared by the Lavon Police Department, where the children’s mother, Heather James, works as a special programs administrator. Police Chief Michael Jones commended Leah’s quick actions, saying she “moved like she’s been doing this for years.” Heather says she only learned what had happened when Leah ran inside to tell her, adding that she’s proud of her daughter’s maturity and bravery.

She advises parents to teach their children lifesaving skills at any age, and Logan is now promising to not eat candy on the trampoline again.
