A two-year-old Asian small-clawed otter, Splash, recently became the nation’s first search and rescue recovery otter when he joined up with the Peace River K9 Search and Rescue organization in Florida. The otter and his trainer, Micheal Hadsell, demonstrated Splash’s scent detection and recovery abilities during a visit to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. Officials say Splash’s skills may help in locating missing individuals in bodies of water. Peace River K9 Search and Rescue is a Southwest Florida nonprofit that supports agencies at multiple levels in recovering lost, missing, and abducted persons.
