College Athlete Creates “Bags For Buddies” To Help Kids In Foster Care

Stockton University student and track athlete JackEdward Schmick, who grew up in the foster care system, is collecting backpacks for children in New Jersey foster care through his initiative “Bags for Buddies.” The organization gathers new and gently used backpacks and bags of all types, along with school supplies, donating them to state employees working in the foster care system so they can distribute them to kids who need them. Schmick, who’s now also a published author, recently released “Your Biggest Opponent” to share his experiences and challenges. Through Bags for Buddies, he aims to support children facing situations similar to those he once experienced.
