Macon Woman’s Ride to Kroger Worker Blossoms Into Friendship

Keith Tidwell, who works nights in the produce department at Kroger in Macon, Georgia, used to walk nearly five miles each way to work. Debbie Rhoden, a regular shopper who had seen him for years, offered him a ride after noticing him walking along the highway about a year and a half ago.

Since then, she has driven him several times a week, easing his long and late-night commute.

Rhoden, who lost her son Carlos shortly before, felt compelled to help in his memory. Their routine has grown into a meaningful friendship that they both expect will last even after Tidwell secures his own transportation.
