Volunteers Fix Up Vietnam Vet’s Home So He Avoids Eviction

Volunteers in Happy Valley, Oregon turned a flood‑soaked setback into a full‑blown community rescue mission, teaming up with veteran‑led Team Rubicon to repair the home of Gary, a Vietnam veteran facing possible eviction after storm damage left his place unsafe.

Even Mayor Tom Ellis rolled up his sleeves as crews ripped off old siding, installed new materials, and gave the home a fresh coat of paint.

The project didn’t just fix walls; it eased Gary’s anxiety and ensured he could stay in the home he loves, all while showcasing what happens when neighbors, veterans, and local leaders rally around someone who needs a lift.
