Tiny Pantry, Huge Impact

Simone Briggs has turned a piece of her childhood into a lifeline for her neighbors in Meridian, Idaho. Last fall, during the SNAP shutdown, she transformed her mom’s little free library into a “little free pantry” after seeing a similar idea online. Out went the books, in came donated food — and the community immediately rallied around it.

Since then, residents have been dropping off everything from canned goods and ready‑made meals to can openers and other essentials, keeping the tiny pantry stocked around the clock. Neighbors stop by daily to quietly take what they need, and supporters swing by just as often to refill the shelves.

Briggs says she plans to keep the pantry going as long as people depend on it, and with the steady flow of generosity, her small wooden box has become a symbol of big community heart.
