Middle School Coach Revives Fellow Coach

A middle school basketball game in Belmont, Massachusetts turned into a life‑saving moment when Belmont coach Ian Haffer rushed to help opposing coach Ronnie Poirier, who collapsed just minutes after the game began.

Haffer, who is also a doctor, quickly recognized that Poirier wasn’t breathing and called for an AED while bystanders contacted 911. He applied the AED pads and began lifesaving measures even before the dispatcher finished giving instructions.

Officials say Poirier suffered a heart attack, and they credit Haffer’s swift action with saving his life. Speaking from the hospital, Poirier said he is “beyond grateful” as he awaits further testing.
