Fence-Jumping Officer Saves Infant as Dog Attack Unfolds Next Door

An off-duty St. Petersburg police officer, Dale Johnson, rescued a two‑month‑old baby from a rottweiler attack in Parrish, Florida. After hearing screams, he jumped his fence and intervened when the dog bit the infant’s leg during a scuffle involving the family’s puppy.

Johnson restrained the dog and freed the baby, while his wife comforted the mother. The infant was taken to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital for stitches and is recovering. Johnson suffered minor injuries. Manatee County Animal Welfare is investigating, and the dog’s owner is cooperating.
