An eight‑month‑old girl was rescued from Lake Michigan after a sudden gust of wind blew her stroller into the water. Chicago resident Lio Cundiff, who can’t swim, jumped into the freezing lake to save her, saying he “wasn’t going to let that baby die.”
American Airlines pilot Louis Kapost used his jacket to help keep Cundiff tethered while bystanders pulled them out. The baby was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital in good condition. Cundiff later praised the teamwork and said he hopes the child “has a really cool future.”
