Firefighting Fisherman Helps Save Dozens in Hotel Blaze

A Wisconsin fisherman on a hotel trip turned into an unlikely first responder when a late‑night blaze erupted at the Superior & Sage Hotel.

Bill Zezza spotted the fire, grabbed the nearest extinguisher, and pushed through the heat using a door as a shield. When one extinguisher ran out, he smashed glass cases to get more, pulled the alarm, and kept fighting the flames from outside as the fire spread.

His efforts bought guests precious time to escape before firefighters from multiple stations arrived to battle a blaze that ultimately caused about $1 million in damage. No injuries were reported, and officials say Zezza’s quick action likely prevented a far worse outcome.
