1 dead after 6-vehicle crash off of Highway 21 in Rincon

RINCON, Ga. (WSAV) - The Effingham County's Sheriff's Office (ECSO) and Rincon Police Department (RPD) responded on Friday evening to a crash involving six vehicles on Brentwood Drive and Highway 21.

Rincon Police tells WSAV that officers were dispatched to a "domestic dispute with an alleged aggravated assault" at Towne Park Drive East.

Before police arrived, the suspect vehicle fled the scene. The driver, a female, ran the red light at Hwy 21 and Brentwood Drive at a high rate of speed, causing a six vehicle crash.

The driver of one of the vehicles is deceased and the driver of the suspect vehicle is in custody. The accident is being investigated by the Effingham County Traffic Unit.

Traffic is being rerouted to Lisa Street at this time. ECSO says drivers in the area should expect delays.

This is a developing story and WSAV will provide updates as soon as they are available.
