SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The wait is almost over as the Savannah Bananas gear up for their home opener Friday.
This season is extra special - as Grayson Stadium celebrates its 100th anniversary.
Later today, thousands of fans will walk through Grayson Stadium for the team's home opener. This year marks a huge milestone – 100 years of history at this iconic ballpark! With that, the Bananas are bringing fresh entertainment with brand-new renovations.
"I think there's not many ballparks in the country that last 100 years," said Jesse Cole, the owner of the Savannah Bananas. "But to see it now in the best shape that it's ever been in, you know, with the new video bar, the new turf, the new deck seating, everything, the new lights, I mean, this is special. And this community means a lot to us."
Even with the upgrades, the team is preserving the stadium's historic charm.
As the Bananas continue to innovate, expect some new trick plays and entertainment this year. They said they hope you stop by this season.
