ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) – The Coastal Health District is warning residents about the dangers of rabies after a recent attack on St. Simons Island.
CHD said a raccoon tested positive for rabies after attacking a feral cat in an area near Frederica and Harrington roads.
"This is an important reminder that rabies can circulate in several species of wild animals in coastal Georgia, including raccoons, foxes and bats," officials said.
