California trial lawyer Michael Mandell, who specializes in personal injury cases, has shared a simple way to trip up liars as they try to pull the wool over your eyes. … Research found that when we lie we are more likely to copy the behavior and body language of the person we are talking to — and the logic behind it makes a lot of sense. Lying forces our brains to work overtime in a bid to ensure our story has no holes, and runs through endless possibilities we may be asked to keep up the pretense. Our thoughts are so preoccupied with the lie that the control over our body language can often resort to mimicking what we see, as these actions can be done unconsciously and is less effort than thinking for ourselves.
