Kansas man ordered to remove giant Chiefs mural from side of home

Just because you love something doesn’t mean you should make your neighbors stare at it. A man living in Kansas who painted a giant mural of the Kansas City Chiefs on the side of his home says the city has ordered him to remove it. Chris Chancey says he spent about 60 hours painting the mural of Chiefs players Patrick Mahomes, Eric Fisher, and Mitchell Schwartz on the side of his Kansas City home to commemorate the team’s 2020 Super Bowl victory. But Chancey says the city sent him a letter giving him until March 31st to remove the mural, or he’ll face escalating financial penalties. The city released a statement saying in part, “Unfortunately, murals, including awesome ones like this, are not allowed in residential (R1) areas per the City’s Code of Ordinances.” Chancey says he has a friend who wants to buy the mural, and is considering “steal[ing] it off [his] house.”
