A diner at a Gainesville, Florida, restaurant gathered the staff of 10 together to thank them for their hard work after having dinner with his wife and son, and then left them a $10,000 tip to share. Owner Shawn Shepherd told The Gainesville Sun of his employees, "Watching these guys get their check was almost as good as Christmas morning." Shepherd temporarily closed the Wahoo when the pandemic began and lost some $30,000 worth of food. He said the Florida Restaurant Lodging Association and the Alachua County Chamber of Commerce were a big help in finding emergency funding to pay the employees until he reopened in May.
