_ A Target employee’s TikTok video has gone viral after she posted a video showing the price of Cetaphil cleanser being increased by over four dollars. The video has gotten over a million views since being posted Saturday. In the video, Kaitlin (user @kaitlinsondae) on TikTok holds the new $10.99 price tag for the cleanser and compares it to the old tag, which prices the cleanser at $6.19. •VIDEO

… The TikToker also posted about prices going up in the beauty section in August. On August 27, she posted a video showing that Sally Hansen Insta-Dri nail polish was going from $4.49 to $9.99.

… The increases aren’t only happening at Target or on beauty products, however. Customers and retail employees commented that they noticed increases in grocery product prices at several stores.

The good news, according to a speech by Jerome Powell, chair of the Federal Reserve, is the current inflation is believed to be “transitory” rather than long-term. The price of the Sally Hansen nail polish already went down, according to a follow-up TikTok that Kaitlin posted.

But there is more good news about Target. Target’s price matching policy covers more than 35,000 items and 25 online competitors, such as Bed Bath & Beyond, Amazon, Walmart, Kohl’s and Macy’s. If you find a better price than what you paid at Target, you have 14 days to request a price match. While most smaller brick-and-mortar stores or large home improvement stores like Home Depot are not on the list, if you do happen to spot at a lower price at the stores and online retailers below, getting a refund or price adjustment on the difference should be pretty easy with the insight and tips we’ve outlined here.

Price matching (especially if you can search for online prices before hitting the stores) is a great resource for shoppers when you deal hunt. For example, store A might be much closer to you than store B, so it saves you a longer trip. You could potentially also reap more benefits at the other retailer by taking advantage of rewards programs or additional coupons that are stackable with a particular store and not available at the other.

The Target price match policy allows for a price match on a qualifying item found at a competitor or at Target.com at the time of purchase, or you can request a price adjustment within 14 days of the purchase date. The item must be an identical product in order for Target to honor any price-match cost adjustment.

Target’s price match is available both in-store and online, but if you do it online you have to call Target.com Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869. If you ordered something for in-store pickup, you can price match when you pick up your order to get your extra savings that same day to save you time going back to the store later for a price adjustment.
