WWII SOLDIER'S LONG-LOST LETTER DELIVERED TO HIS WIDOW 76 YEARS LATER

A World War Two soldier sent a letter 76 years ago and his widow just received it in 2022. Then 22-year-old U.S. Army Sergeant John Gonsalves mailed the letter from Germany to his mother in Massachusetts, but it never arrived. It recently turned up at a processing and distribution facility, sparking a search for Gonsalves' family. His mother, the intended recipient of the letter, was long dead, and Gonsalves himself died in 2015. But the Postal Service was able to get the letter to his widow, Jean Gonsalves, who said getting the letter and reading her late husband's words from a time before they had even met was emotional. She said, "When I think it's all his words, I can't believe it. It's wonderful. And I feel like I have him here with me, you know?"
