On March 14, 2022, the Met presented a benefit concert to support Ukraine and its citizens, with Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducting the Met Orchestra and Chorus and distinguished soloists, including Ukrainian bass-baritone Vladyslav Buialskyi, who led a performance of the Ukrainian national anthem, and soprano Lise Davidsen’s singing Strauss’s Four Last Songs. The concert ended with the final movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, featuring soprano Elza van den Heever, mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton, tenor Piotr Beczała, and bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green.
The concert was put together in a week's time...and sold out in ten minutes.
Below is the BBC's story on it, followed by the finale with performance by baritone Vladyslav Buialskyi (with hand over his heart), whose family is still back home. He face times with them regularly and tells them that America is on their side.
