Hurricane Ian: Where the power outages are and the sheriff has an update

As Ian moved up the South Carolina coast offshore from the Lowcountry, about 2800 residents have no power, most of those are customers of Dominion Energy. Many of those are on Daufuskie Island. They say the power was on and off last night and today. Some 1900 homes are experiencing outages on the barrier islands, Fripp and Hunting.

At this time, Palmetto Electric says there are no outages in their service area. Crews and employees are stationed at our offices and are prepared for any outages that may occur throughout the day. As weather conditions permit, crews will respond to outages as quickly and safely as possible. Their lobbies and drive-thrus will remain closed today.

Remember to report outages by calling PowerTouch at 1-866-445-5551 or by using MyEnergy Online or the MyEnergy mobile app.

Meanwhile Sheriff Tanner has issued this update and statement.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office continues to monitor Hurricane Ian and its potential impacts on our community. Currently, we are seeing rain and sustained winds of 28 mph and wind gusts of up to 47 mph in some areas of the county. Although it appears we are out of the danger zone, flooding and wind damage is still a concern. High tide will peak today at approximately 1:00 p.m.   We are still under a hurricane warning, storm surge warning, flood watch, rip current advisory, and high surf advisory.  If you need to report a downed tree or storm-related damage, please call our non-emergency number at 843-524-2777 and reserve calling 911 for emergencies.
