Deanah Gotchie was dropping off some things at a friend’s house in Minneapolis. Her husband Derek and their four young children were waiting in the car, and Deanah saw Derek get out to close the back door. Then, Deanah said, “I look out the door, and I see our taillights leaving.” A thief had stolen the car — with the kids inside. Derek saw a van, which the carjacker had arrived in. It was still running, so Derek hopped in to go after his kids. He was able to catch up a few blocks away. He used the van to hit the back of his own vehicle and pin it against a fence. By the time his wife got to the scene, the police were already there.
