17-year-old cancer survivor scores winning shot in school's basketball game

A TV reporter spoke with Heritage High School senior basketball player Rocky Elardo about her journey from chemotherapy to playing in her school's Senior Night game. Rocky has been battling a rare type of bone cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma and has done three rounds of treatment for it. She's had to miss a large portion of her team's games but suited up one last time to hit a shot she'll never forget. Great job, Rocky!

“I was actually very stressed out,” Rocky told “Good Morning America,” adding that she didn’t even want to shoot the ball initially. She finally did when her teammate urged her on. Rocky stood at the three-point line for the shot and the second she let the ball go, she could feel it was a winner.

The emotional moment was captured on camera and Rocky’s assistant coach, Ariel McKinney, said it was especially sweet for Rocky, who was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma in 2019.
