Alisabeth Hayden was flying home to Seattle after visiting her military husband in Guam. She deplaned in San Francisco, then realized she’d left her jacket on board. United Airlines staff retrieved her jacket and Hayden boarded her final flight and decided to get some shuteye. She thought she would put her AirPods in but then realized they were gone. While in flight, Hayden opened the Find My app and located her AirPods, capturing screenshots as they went to different terminals, then to a cargo terminal, then down the highway to someone’s home. She immediately reached out to United Airlines and the police. A San Francisco Airport detective finally recovered them and identified the thief as a United contractor. The AirPods were returned but damaged, and United has promised to buy her a new pair, plus give her 5,000 bonus miles as an apology.
