A school bus driver in Amherst, Ohio, has found fame and even a little bit of fortune after what must have been one of the worst days of her life. Jackie Miller was caught on video delivering a blistering foul-mouthed tirade to the students on her bus, who had been harassing her for years.
Jackie Miller told a local news reporter that her rant — in which she threatened to “start kicking some f–kin’ serious ass” because she was “done with the s–t” — followed at least two years of needling by a core group of kids on her Amherst route. “I’m sorry for the way this went down, I truly am,” the driver said of the rant on a particularly “challenging” day, which she claims happened after a student sprayed perfume and sparked “a horrible asthma attack.” “I do apologize for my actions on that day. But — I won’t take it back,” she said of the scolding that ended with her resignation.
Somebody started selling T-shirts with quotes from her tongue-lashing, which are memorable but we can’t repeat them here. Somebody else set up a GoFundMe campaign that has so far raised $60,000 towards her retirement. The campaign notes that “bus drivers, teachers, cafeteria workers, janitors and school staffs are the hardest working people and a huge influence on our children, yet they continue to be underpaid and underappreciated.”
Amid a nationwide bus driver shortage, Miller said behavior like this is largely to blame. "This is a plight of all bus drivers, we are treated in the worst possible sense of the word," Miller said. "We are treated with such lack of respect."
