No, they haven't been fired. But they have another calling.
Lionel and Katy, as you have heard or read, have been invited to the coronation of King Charles this weekend and will perform at Windsor Castle on Sunday. So...who will be at the judges desk when #AmericanIdol goes live Sunday night at 8 Eastern/5 Pacific? Is Luke going to be left all alone to be the only judge for the show?
Of course not. Idol producers have found two substitute judges and this really sounds intriguing.
Stepping in for Katy and Lionel are two Grammy winners: Alanis Morisette and Ed Sheeran (who has a new single and album to promote).
Alanis will pull double duty as guest judge...and mentoring the remaining 7 contestants wo will be performing her sons Sunday night. The same top 7 will also team up with each other for special duets of Sheeran's hit songs, and some will duet with him too.
Katy, Lionel, have a great time, and make us proud. But Idol is going to be in very good hands!
The night won't be completely void of Katy and Lionel; they'll be popping into the show live via satellite.
The following Sunday the show celebrates the magic of Disney as the remaining top 5 sing songs from the Disney songbook as America votes for the top 3 who will make it into the finale.
