Americans will soon be able to file their taxes directly to the government! The IRS expects the test program to be available to the public for 2024's tax season...but the tax-preparation industry claims this move will cost tax-payers money.
"American taxpayers who want to file their taxes for free online should have an accessible option," Treasury Department official Laurel Blatchford said.
A blog post by Intuit, the maker of TurboTax, claims that Americans do not want a direct-to-IRS filing system. "Taxpayers don't want the tax collector, assessor, auditor, and enforcer also to be their tax preparer," the post reads.
