10 months ago, Andy and Lynette Smith of Essex recorded a herd of escaped buffalo lounging in their pool and walking around their yard. The couple claims 18 water buffaloes caused $31,000 in damages to their home.
"When my wife went to make the morning tea, she glanced out of the kitchen window and saw eight buffaloes in the pool," Andy Smith said. However, when she called emergency services, she was told the fire brigade wouldn't respond to a hoax call.
The owner of the escaped animals eventually came to round them up.
Insurance company NFU Mutual has finally agreed to pay the full amount after almost a year of deliberations. The company says the delay was due to gaining "further assurance around the costs involved.
