If you're new to the area, you may not be aware that annually on the first weekend in August South Carolina offers a tax-free weekend, started to help parents get a little relief from buying clothing and school supplies for the new semester.
If you're not new to the area you already know that this isn't restricted to parents and in fact there are alot of items that are eligible to be purchased in store or online without paying the state 6% sales tax.
Last year shoppers spend over $26.2 million in tax free items during the tax-free weekend, and with the increased cost from inflation that discount is a welcome relief for families.
Georgia used to participate but no longer does.
Computers, art supplies, backpacks, bedding, blankets, clothing, coats and jackets, computers, shoes, and even some bed and bath items are eligible, but digital cameras, smartphones, jewelry, eye glasses, wallets and furniture are not.
