The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Bryan County, beginning on Tuesday 5PM till Wednesday 12PM. With the potential for snow, ice, and power outages, Bryan County is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.
As a precaution, the County will open warming stations on Tuesday in both North and South Bryan County. These stations will provide residents with a safe and warm space to escape the cold. Please note that the setups will be minimalistic, with no cots, showers, or other amenities. The details are as follows:
- South Bryan County Warming Station: Timber Trail Gymnasium, 508 Timber Trail
- North Bryan County Warming Station: Pembroke Christian Church Social Hall, 116 West Bacon Street
- Hours of Operation will be sent out in a future update.
Residents are strongly urged to shelter in place and avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary. Hazardous road conditions, particularly on bridges, are expected as freezing rain and snow begin to accumulate. Bryan County Public Works crews are actively sanding bridges and preparing roads ahead of the storm to enhance safety.
Space Heater and Generator Safety
As residents prepare for the possibility of power outages, Bryan County emphasizes the importance of safety when using space heaters and generators:
- Space Heaters: Ensure space heaters are placed on flat, stable surfaces and kept at least three feet away from flammable materials. Never leave them unattended while in use.
- Generators: Operate generators outdoors, away from windows and doors, to prevent the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Never use generators inside homes, garages, or enclosed spaces.
