Ed Sheeran Locked Out Of His Hotel Room Naked With Only a Napkin To Cover

In an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Ed Sheeran told host Alex Cooper about his most embarrassing drunken moment.

At around the 23:50 mark of the podcast, Sheeran shared a story for the first time about an incident from when he was on tour. "I was playing a city in Europe—[it] was like 2018, 2019—and my best mate was out with his mum and his sister," he shared, noting that he joined them for some coffee tequila liqueur. "Then I went to bed and I got up in the middle of the night to have a pee and I was sleeping naked. I walked out to have a pee, and then I heard a door close. ... I'm in the corridor naked, no key."

He said this was around 4 a.m. in the morning, and he instantly began to panic as he realized what was happening, half-asleep and completely nude. He noticed several security cameras nearby and it dawned on him how dire the situation really was.

"There was like room service, someone that had room service, and I went to get the napkin," he said, adding that the napkin was his only modesty. "Napkin on, click the lift, went down to the lobby. .... I walked with this thing and I was like, 'Please can you let me back in my room and please can you not tell anyone about this?' My security guard went to go wipe all the... well he told me he wiped it. He might have kept it for blackmail later on down the line. But yeah, I think that was the most embarrassing thing I've ever done."

Sheeran said that he saw the hotel staff's eyes widen as he and his napkin received help from them. "I went back to bed," he said. "Because I was like, nothing's gonna change the fact that that just happened. I message my security guard, was like, 'Please, can you you wipe the footage?' ... It's a very human mistake."

After the incident, he wisely stopped sleeping naked and invested in pajamas. "I'm sober at the moment so that's definitely like helping [stop me from] doing stupid s***," he laughed.

Elsewhere in the chat, he was asked if he's ever been asked to do a Super Bowl halftime show. He said there was "a conversation" about it around ten years ago to do it as a collaboration with someone else, whom he didn't name.
